Yarpa Hub Launches Business Accelerator To Fast Track Indigenous Business Growth Across NSW

The Indigenous business sector will be supercharged through an ambitious strategic partnership between the Yarpa Indigenous Business and Employment Hub (Yarpa Hub) and KPMG Australia.

The launch of Yarpa Grow – a tailored business growth program – will empower and help build a strong and prosperous Indigenous business sector by providing established businesses with the skills and resources to undertake rapid growth and expansion.

The Yarpa Hub is a holistic support service for Indigenous businesses and jobseekers across NSW, developed by the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council through the support of the Federal Government.

This new partnership with KPMG Australia will amplify the opportunities available to Yarpa Indigenous businesses and further position the Yarpa Hub as a leader in the Indigenous business support sector.

“Aboriginal people are amongst the most entrepreneurial in this country and Yarpa Grow is a really significant part of the NSWALC Strategic Plan 2018-2022 goal of economic prosperity for our people,” NSW Aboriginal Land Council CEO James Christian said.

“We see this initiative advancing us towards that goal and hopefully seeing more Aboriginal owned and controlled businesses getting the assistance they need to grow their business”.

The Yarpa Grow program, developed in partnership with the KPMG Indigenous Services team, has been designed in close consultation with Indigenous business leaders to ensure the program curriculum meets the needs of growing Indigenous businesses.

“The launch of Yarpa Grow is a significant milestone for the Yarpa Hub and we’re thrilled to be partnering with an organisation like KPMG Australia which has the skills and experience to launch our businesses into future successes,” Yarpa Hub Director Ricky Walford said.

“This is an initiative designed to build capability and the confidence to successfully connect participating businesses to the growing pipeline of procurement opportunities across the state and we’re very confident of helping them achieve significant success.”

There will be two rounds of the Yarpa Grow program this year, with an intake of up to 15 Indigenous businesses per round.

Participating businesses will be guided through a series of learning and assessment modules such as business planning, supply chain readiness and sustainable growth pathways. Selected businesses will also be matched with a KPMG Australia mentor who will have extensive experience within growing businesses within their field.

“Yarpa Business Hub is a visionary concept that has the potential to transform the lives of the Aboriginal people of NSW,” KPMG Australia Indigenous Services Lead Glen Brennan said.

“Yarpa Grow is a practical way that we can help Aboriginal entrepreneurs achieve their ambition and KPMG Australia delighted to be partnering with the Yarpa Hub on such an outcomes focused initiative.”

The Yarpa Grow program will be available for Indigenous businesses who are majority Indigenous owned and controlled, have capacity to commit to the full Yarpa Grow program and are active members of the Yarpa Hub.

Expressions of interest are now being sought for the first intake of Indigenous businesses.
