Yarpa Pop-Ups

Yarpa business coaches have been popping up in various locations across the state to meet and connect with Indigenous businesses.

The pop-ups gave the hub coaches a chance to provide advice and get to know regional NSW Indigenous businesses.

Yarpa Business Coach, Shannon Mallison said, “This is all about building a connection. It’s an introduction and looking at what the next steps are for them as a business.”

The first stop for the Pop-ups was Nowra and Wollongong, then on to Tamworth, Coffs Harbour and Dubbo. All locations were chosen due to the significant growth of Indigenous businesses in these areas.

“We wanted to show our regional communities, that we are committed to them just as much as we are about servicing our city businesses.”

The coaches met with a number of Indigenous businesses with various needs and at differing stages of their business journey.

Shannon said, “It’s been really good. It’s been so interesting because the range of businesses is so vast. I’ve met people that are still in that concept stage and still trying to figure it all out. Then on the other hand I’ve got businesses that have been going strong for a number of years and are looking to grow or expand into the market, so that’s been good.”

“We’ve had businesses in transport, agricultural businesses, artists and much more. Some businesses just were so unique. The breadth of businesses never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I’ve seen it all or I’ve crossed all industries, then someone else comes along.”

Shannon’s personal experience has influenced her passion to servicing the regional Indigenous business community.

“I come from a small country town so I know what it’s like to have limited services. It’s not to say that there aren’t any, but it’s good to give them a choice and the same service as the city businesses.”

Businesses were able to book their one-on-one session via a booking page on Yarpa’s website by selecting their location and a time to meet.

The Pop-ups will finish off in Whalan in Western Sydney on the 8th of October, 2020.
