Yarpa works with Bunnings to boost Indigenous Employment

Bunnings is trialling a 10-week paid employment trial program that provides meaningful employment opportunities across Australia.

With the assistance of Yarpa, Bunnings held an information session, where Indigenous job seekers were given an overview of Bunnings, met the Operations Manager and 4 other Section Managers.

The candidates were then given a walk around the store with each respective Manager providing an overview of their sections.

Following the information session, the candidates were interviewed  and with three candidates being offered an opportunity to participate in their 10-week paid employment trial  program.

Bunnings Indigenous Employment Advisor for NSW and ACT, Lee Quince said, “This is a 10-week program where we provide meaningful paid employment. It really gives the candidates an opportunity to get their teeth into the role and find out whether they like working there. I think it’s equally as important to know if they’re happy working with Bunnings and then we can offer a more permanent role going forward.”

Yarpa’s employment support specialist, Steve Clarke said, “Yarpa has established a great relationship with Bunnings and has met and developed a process to identify opportunities within Bunnings and then promote these to Indigenous communities across NSW.  We look forward to helping Bunnings recruit more Indigenous team Members in their stores in both metropolitan and regional locations.”

Lee says working with Yarpa has provided access to a much larger pool of Indigenous candidates for Bunnings.

“I’ve been dealing with Yarpa for about 4-5 months. We were looking for someone that understands Indigenous employment and that’s got a wide reach within the state and could provide us with some great candidates as these jobs come up. It’s been fantastic to work with Steve.”
